Aspartame Is One of the Deadliest Sweeteners On The Planet According To Scientific Studies

While government propaganda suggests that the chemicals in drugs are the most hazardous for our health, turns out a few chemicals in our everyday food and drinks have an even worse effect. You may have chosen diet as a healthy lifestyle choice — like diet cola or cookies — but you may be unaware of the dangers of the chemical — aspartame.

Several people still assume that diet drinks are a healthier option as it apparently contains lesser sugar and calories. But what they give up in calories they make up by pushing chemicals into your system that can gradually cause permanent damage.

One the main ingredients in diet sodas like Pepsi and Coca-Cola, Aspartame, is an artificial sweetener that replaces regular sugar. And its slow poison like effects even includes increasing your risk of stroke and dementia.

A study conducted by Boston University concluded that “People who consume one diet drink a day ‘three times more likely to suffer stroke or dementia.” Further, adults who had more diet drinks a day were 2.9 times more likely to develop dementia and were at triple the risk of having strokes or cardiovascular conditions.

Senior fellow at the department of neurology at Boston University School of Medicine, Matthew Pase says, “Our study shows a need to put more research into this area given how often people drink artificially sweetened beverages. Although we did not find an association between stroke or dementia and the consumption of sugary drinks, this certainly does not mean they are a healthy option. We recommend that people drink water on a regular basis instead of sugary or artificially sweetened beverages.”

The team has advised healthcare professionals to not promote diet drinks as a replacement for regular soda.

Head of Research at Alzheimer’s Research UK, Dr. Rosa Sancho said, “As people are becoming more aware of the consequences of a high-sugar diet, many are turning to artificially-sweetened diet fizzy drinks as an alternative to those with lots of sugar. Future studies will need to confirm these findings in other groups of people, and explore what might be underlying any link between artificially-sweetened soft drinks and dementia.”

In a nutshell, contrary to popular belief, diet drinks are counter-productive for people who are actually looking to live a healthier lifestyle. If you regularly consume diet drinks, try cutting down on them or go cold turkey. You’ll be doing yourself a huge favor by giving it up and you can actually see the difference for yourself when you do.

So the next time you instinctively reach for the Coke Zero, think about the problems you’re exposing your body too and make better choices.
